Q: What’s better than a 10-course meal expertly crafted by D Magazine’s best new restaurants of the year?
A: Giving back to an organization that makes a huge impact on our community, like Café Momentum.
D‘s annual Best New Restaurants Dinner, held at Café Momentum on Dec. 1, donated 100 percent of proceeds from ticket sales to the 501(c)(3) nonprofit restaurant, which works with the Dallas County Juvenile Justice Department to provide adolescents with job skills, education and employment opportunities; along with equally important mentorship and a positive environment. Read up on the many ways the organization is helping young people here.
But moving on to the FOOD…let’s just say I experienced firsthand the delicious evidence that led D to select these restaurants as Dallas’s best in 2015.
The menu featured dishes from notable new additions to the local culinary scene including:
- Ten Ramen
- Ida Claire
- Small Brew Pub
- L.A.W. at Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas (opening March 2016)
And of course, Café Momentum kicked the meal off with a Smoked Carrot Soup with Cilantro Pesto, served in an adorable mini mug.
Other favorites included Madrina’s take on Elotes – Baby Corn Esquite, Cojita Cheese, Black Truffle (YES), Creme Fraiche, Chile, and Lime; and Remedy’s Beet-Cured Salmon with Dill Marinated Baby Beets, Lemon Cream, Shaved Candy Stripe Beets, Sour Cream and Onion Potato Chips, Chives, and EVOO. I also learned that Ida Claire has Ladies Night every Wednesday from 4pm – close with half-price rosé! I’ll be going ASAP, you should do the same.
